My father, Dr. David Vack, passed away when I was in eighth grade (I don't want to talk much about it since it's a really sensitive topic), but he inspires me everyday of my life. The main life lessons I learned from him were to live life to the fullest, and to work hard no matter what. Throughout my life I have accomplished many goals because of dedication and hard work; I was never the most talented hockey player, or the smartest kid, but I worked my ass of at all times. During my hockey career I was always on the "B" team year after year because I did not have the talent that other players had. My dad passed in the middle of my first year playing bantam hockey ( bantams are eighth and ninth grade, you play two years at each level). At that time I was on the "B" team; the next year I was determined to make the Bantam A team in honor of my father, so I worked hard each day over the summer and made the team the next year. Our team went on to win the State Championship that year. After I made my goal of making the Bantam A team, next on the list was Varsity. I played two years of JV and finally made the Varsity team my senior year. The reason I made these teams was not because I was a great hockey player, but because I was the hardest working player on the team day in and day out. I wasn't the brightest student growing up, but I managed to get good grades in school due to endless hours of studying every night. Working hard in school also helped me get accepted to the University, which was a goal of mine for many years. My father is the reason I am who I am today. I am very proud to be who I am today and I will continue to try to make my father proud of me as well. Everyday of my life I try to set my standards to match my father's. He was loved by many people, and he lives in me and my heart at all times.
