I chose this image because it gave a great example of the idea of different races all in one. Its a picture that is all too familiar to anyone who has taking basic biology class, but in this case modified. It shows the process of human evolution that varies in different continents, and how it caters to peoples pre-concieved notions of how "evolved" a country/continent/race is. While many people might think certain characteristics can only apply to non-white races, in reality it applies to every type of human being.
Stuart Hall states that we classify things without much conscious though. But because we have all these pre-concieved notions for every race/nationality does that give that idea some validity? Do humans do it to bring order to our thoughts? possibly.
But does this picture hold some truth to it? Yes it is blatantly exaggerated, but is their some truth that Japan is far more advanced that many other countries technology wise, compared to countries in Africa. We can't deny the fact that their are many people in Africa that have never used electricity, BUT also not everyone in Japan can afford the latest, greatest technology, nor that every European is a sophisticated, well educated person.
The politics of representation in this image is clear, and I argue with and against this photo. There is some validity to it that there are far more countries in Europe and Asia that have made the leap to the 21st century compared to African countries, but also there are many people in those countries that do not fit the stereotype, or in case of this image, belong in a different country that caters to their character.
This picture seems like it is extremely exaggerating the intelligence of those different races of today's world. It is mainly being racist towards the Africans, showing that there has been almost no sign of evolution in comparison to Europe and Japan. Where Japan skyrockets to robots and Africa is stuck at an ape. Overall looking at third world countries and looking at the progress that others have made throughout the many years, one can see that Europe, and especially Japan in this case have soared, and Africa has done nothing and is staying at the bottom of the competition
