Now before going into depth about this controversy, I should first state that I have chosen not do think about this concept internally because I know that it would cause some internal conflict. So I am sure that deep down I may have answer to the debate of abortions, but I am not going to search for an answer. Now we can get started on the actual issue. A few days ago, Apple was accused of being pro-life because their new Siri application does not know of any abortion clinic locations.
I asked my roommate to try this on Siri, and she responded “I didn’t find any abortion clinics” and she never even searched the web like she does with everything else. I talked to my Dad about this they other day and he said that it was probably because Apple seems to be a liberal company. Now I think that this whole thing is blown way out of proportions. So what if Apple is pro-life, they have the right to be if they want. People and companies can have their own opinions and people should respect that. If they really have that big of an issue, then do not buy from them. If they loose sales and they really are pro-life, then they will probably change this opinion to neutral. I am Christian, if I created a world changing book that displays Christians within it, I can guarantee that people would read it if it was a good book. Apple products are amazing and iconic; they should be bought for their abilities not their views.
Before I go any further, Apple responded to this situation by saying that Siri is still in the testing phase and that some things still need to be worked out. So this whole abortion view may have been an accident. Everyone has the right to express their opinions whether it is Apple being pro-life or the protesters being pro-choice, either way I READ both.
First of all, I love your title! So cute!
ReplyDeleteSecond, if Apple doesn't want to have abortion clinics in their phones, so be it. They don't answer to anyone, and if they choose to lose customers because they don't want to have abortion clinics, that is their personal choice.
Wow, I am so shocked actually right now. I feel like this is such a sneaky, hardly noticeable thing to do. I would never expect a company to do this because I would think any search engine would search anything, not that you could block stuff out. Wow. I think this is quite an interesting way to go about things, especially something so controversial. But like you said, they can do what they want and it's their choice, which is completely true.
ReplyDeleteNice, I am happy people read both. Are you Pro-life or choice? I just think Siri is still in beta, She is pretty new after all, and abortion clinics are probs not on the top of the list to include.
ReplyDeleteNow companies have the rights of a person (which is a whole different argument) they can and do have their opinions.
The media getting all hyped up about this is pretty ridiculous. Siri (along with all similar software programs) is relatively new software that's going to be bound to make mistakes and have glitches. Whether or not this is actually a planned, programmed thing there is going to be problems.
