Love lets you Fly

Titanic, one of the highest grossing movies of all time was directed by James Cameron, the same man who created Avatar. We have been working very closely with Avatar over the past few weeks, and when considering the blog post this week I decided to work with once specific scene from Titanic. This particular scene is one of the most famous in the movie. It shows Jack and Rose on the very front of the Titanic, Jack is making Rose trust him. This is an example of the poor over the rich, because Rose's family is extremely wealthy, and Dicaprio represents the class that she has never experienced. She wants to give up all of her wealth and social standing for love and a life of poverty. This is also an example of hands over heads. Jack is poor and must do physical labor to make a living, which Rose's family are businessmen.

The first devise that is used to create the romantic is the sound. The sound track playing in the background creates a certain mood. In the beginning it is almost completely silent, and as the two draw closer together the music becomes louder. The music seems to reflect the rising emotions of the two characters and seems to hold them together. When Jack reaches for her hand and signals her to be quiet, every female in the audience sighs. The romantic is created because Jack asks Rose to completely trust him and offers her protection. The way that he holds her body next to his is also what creates the romantic. It shows that he is supporting her and offering her protection. The colors of the setting sun are also a sign of the romantic, much like a rainbow, they have many romantic and awe inspiring connotations.

This scene creates the argument that all women need a man to protect them and provide support to them. Even though Rose is a wealthy and influential women, she still seeks the love of a man that is lower in rank than she is. This scene also creates the argument that love is a completely wonderful experience, that love allow you to "fly".
